The firm carefully chooses its cases.  Each case, once accepted, is personally handled by James Geagan.  In other firms, it is frequently the situation that, once the contract is signed, the case is “worked up” by a junior lawyer or paralegal with very little involvement by the original attorney until the case appears ready for settlement or trial.  At that point, the senior lawyer has to take a crash course in learning about the case from the junior attorney or paralegal.

The advantage of having one experienced lawyer handle a case from start to finish is significant.  The lawyer approaching settlement or trial is familiar with every aspect of the case and can evaluate it and prepare it with much more precision.

Questions or concerns from clients are answered by James Geagan, rather than by a paralegal or junior attorney.  Client conferences outside of the office are possible if an office meeting cannot be arranged.  In short, the relationship between the client and attorney is a personal and continuous one throughout the case.

Results

The great majority of cases settle without a trial.  However, whether a case settles for the full compensation possible or not can in large degree depend on the abilities, experience, and reputation of the lawyer representing the claimant.  The defendant in most claims is represented by a lawyer hired by the defendant’s insurance company.  How much the insurance company or the defendant is willing to pay to settle a case is motivated by the assessment of the risk of what may happen at trial.  If the plaintiff’s lawyer is known not to try cases or as a lawyer with little trial experience, the risk of a trial may seem low to the defendant and a low offer may result.  If the attorney is known to try cases and obtain good results, the risk of the outcome at trial will appear greater and the defendant will be motivated to pay more in settlement to avoid that trial.  For this reason, certain lawyers obtain consistently better settlement results than others.
